Bui doi, 'meno della polvere', e' un insulto mirato ai bambini vietnamiti con padri americani. Il film ambientato nel 1990, parla di uno di questi bambini che fugge dal Vietnam alla ricerca dei suoi veri genitori. Costretto a sopportare la vita in un campo profughi, sopravvive a un'attraversata oceanica brutale e alla servitu' su contratto in un racket di traffico di esseri umani. Nonostante tutto non si perde d'animo ed alla fine riuscira' ad arrivare in Texas dove finalmente incontrera' suo padre.
